Sometimes, for whatever reason, you can be laying out a book or exhibition and one image just doesn’t fit. It simply won’t sit still when placed next to other pictures, and it has to be edited out. It’s not that the pictures are bad, they simply have trouble mixing with others – they won’t play nice. Sometimes a picture taken for purely personal reasons turns out to be a real corker, but you just can’t find the right place to show it off. And sometimes, it takes a couple of years before you realise that the picture that you overlooked the first time around is a real gem.
I’ve had some of these pictures following me around for 7 years, and only ever on this tiny scale. Now they have been scanned - fingerprints, blu-tac and all - and allowed out to play.
