Amanda Bates is a mother, a writer, a scientist and an artist. She doesn't consider any of these to be contradictory, but she does wish there was more time to do the ones that aren't her day job.

She lives in north Hampshire and is very fond of taking her painting gear out for walks on the downs. When that isn't practical, she has been known to paint at home. She works predominantly in oils and acrylic.
