About the Book
Growing old with as little or as much silver as a box of Multigrade paper - trainspotting came first, rapidly followed by picture making and photography. The game of collecting numbers passed without medical attention but the art of making pictures is as absorbing (the wife says obsessive!) now as when I made my first picture at the age of ten. Trying to make sense of it all is entirely another matter. It still mystifies when I find myself wrestling with the elements - that combination of light and dark, composition, technique and the decisive moment - to produce those illusive images that can take your breath away - even serendipity needs help now and again!
