Pencils to Pixels is a collection of digital works of art that represent my exploration of the digital medium over the last several years. The venture into the digital realm was not an easy one; in fact I was resistant for quite some time. Ultimately it was technology (the internet, specifically) that gave me the final push to explore the digital medium. It was through dozens of artists’ blogs that I started to see not only what digital art could be, but how it could be accomplished. Their processes inspired me to jump in with both feet and this book portrays that leap. The pieces here showcase a variety of styles and techniques that I will continue to explore, but every one of these pieces started with a pencil and ended in pixels.
Growing up a military brat my family and I traveled around the country and eventually the world. With all of the relocating, my parents and artwork were the two biggest constants of my life. Over the years the initial love of art has developed into a passion which I continue primarily with sequential art and painting. I consider myself very fortunate, because my work has been presented in foreign embassies, newspapers, other publications and in 2004 I received The Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s 21st Gold Circle Award for my work with Grub Street. All of which allows me the opportunity to experiment with my art and continue to travel. Though I don’t always enjoying speaking openly about myself, I do believe that my work in whatever form will always speak for itself.
