About the Book
Nola's adventure in an apple orchard led to the baking of an apple pie. This allowed for a wonderful opportunity to teach sequencing of events with third and fourth graders with a Learning & Language Delayed classroom. Additionally the subject matter was laden with new vocabulary for the students.
First, the student watched a presentation of Nola's adventures and the students engaged in back and forth conversation making predictions to upcoming events. Vocabulary was discussed at length prior to the draft writing. Then each student selected a photo within the sequence to write a bare bone sentence. The students were encouraged to add details to their sentences by re-visiting their photo. Finally, each sentence and accompanying photo was displayed on the whiteboard for the entire group of students to help revise and edit the book.
