About the Author

Zohra Kalinkowitz

Zohra Kalinkowitz has had numerous exhibitions in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationally. With a background in both photography and painting, she produces work that is a hybrid of the two. While the images are photographic, her process of working on them is fluid and painterly. She combines the compositional sensibility of the painter, the technical precision of the camera, and the flexibility of the digital medium to create images that compel the viewer to look beyond surface reality. Her work explores how the natural world communicates spiritual vision through beauty, asking the viewer to look more closely and see more sensitively. What we see transforms what we know. But also what we know changes what we see. The images in this book were shot with a Nikon D300 and a Nikon D50, using primarily a Nikkor 18-200 lens. They were post-processed in Photoshop to create the chiaroscuro effect. The flowers are from the author’s garden and were photographed over a period of 4 years.
