This book is a photographic companion to Environmental Elements for Sidewalks, Volume I. It contains newly recast images made from the original 1976 NEA Grant slides and negatives from four cities, New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, GA and Amarillo, TX.
The book reflects a wistfulness about the "street life" of that time.
George Beggs received a Master of Architecture from Oklahoma State University in 1967 and practiced architecture in Boston and New York City in the 1960's and 1970's. He taught architectural design at Pratt Institute from 1971-1977. Beggs was awarded a one year National Endowment for the Arts Grant in 1976 for the study named Environmental Elements for Sidewalks. From 1980 to 2004 Beggs practiced product design and founded and ran a medical device business. He retired in 2004 and has since been active in fine art photography.
