A first-time look at the playful ceramic art of Robert Judson (1932-2012) and the abstract and figurative paintings and drawings by his life-partner Lloyd Rolfe (1929-2012). With an essay by the author, painter/photographer Jack Balas, and a remembrance by painter/writer Wes Hempel. The hardcover edition is printed on heavier stock paper.
As a painter and photographer, Jack Balas is interested in recontextualizing images of men in a variety of emotional, political and stylistic scenarios -- contexts in which they function as everyman, but are more vulnerable than their surface perfection might suggest. His work is in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
