About the Book
Full of passion for their country and the natural wealth it provides, Sicilians are proud of their long-standing traditions and strong family values. Over past centuries Sicily has gained a rich cultural heritage from periods of Roman, Arab, and Norman rule; from the stunning Sicilian Baroque architecture to its world-renowned cuisine, each ruling empire left behind their contribution to the mixed and diverse Sicilian culture.
Far from the fast-paced hustle of British daily routine, the Sicilian way of life is much more relaxed, with loyalty shown to their families and the community in which they live; It is not uncommon for up to four generations of the same family to live in one house, with the elders taking pride of place on the top floor.
Sicily is a country close to my heart, as my wife is part Sicilian. It has provided many of my own family traditions: from the bomboniere at my wedding to my love for the cuisine. Some even suggest it could be responsible for my children’s fiery temper!
My intention was to produce a photographic account of these cultural attributes, and to show the unique diversity of Sicily and the Sicilian lifestyle.
