I do not know how many millions of images have been taken of the islands of Santorini but the number must be astronomical. The vast majority are in color and the colors blue and white dominate the pallet. After spending four summers on the islands, and publishing three books that show many of the same types of images, I decided to take a different approach to looking at the beauty of Santorini. I got away from the tourist areas and made the decision to only show black and white images. I always feel that black and white gets down to the essence of what is before the lens.
This book is a very personal book for me. I have put a lot of myself into the writing. It is about my feelings and what motivated me to take the photos. I feel that the islands possesses a bit of magic that draws people back if they open themselves up to it.
I keep saying islands and not just island. You will have to read the book to find out why.
I concentrate on landscape photography and what I started calling 'cityscape' photography 6 years ago. At the time no one understood what I was talking about. Now, I see it used everwhere. Did I start something? Fine art photography prints are available through my website.
