About the Book
This book highlights my trip to Guatemala last spring. I went during Holy Week, known in Spanish as Semana Santa. I traveled to four locations, including Guatemala City, Chichicastenago, Antigua and Tikal. What amazing journey, made even more special by the fact that I was there to see the street processions and street carpets that mark the week surrounding Easter. Guatemala is a beautiful country with a fascinating history and culture. I would love to return some day to explore even more of this special place on earth.
Amateur photographer and writer, Russell Wasden finds passion in exploring new cultures and countries. For the past twelve years he has taught ESL and Japanese in public schools in New York City. Currently he acts as Assistant Principal ESL at Hillcrest High School in Jamaica, Queens, where he oversees over 500 recently arrived immigrant students who speak over 13 different languages and come from over 40 countries around the world. Constantly searching to find the streets, alleys and pathways that have yet to be trodden by visitors and tourists, Russell firmly believes that the journey only begins when you see the world through "local eyes." Ultimately he would like to say that he has explored unknown streets and alleyways in all major countries and continents in the world.
