Earlier in the year, I set myself a challenge: see how much of Paris I could visit in just one day. And the answer is, with a bit of careful itinerary planning, I could actually visit (and photograph!) quite a lot … and everything I did was free.

Taking an early Eurostar from London and arriving in Paris around 9.30am on Friday 23rd August 2013, this book is a photographic record of the tour I made. Between different parts of the city, I made use of the Paris Metro system using the “Visite” one day travel card. But otherwise, I did a lot of walking. The book is laid out in the order in which I visited each area. The red line on each section map indicates the route I walked in that part of the city.

I still got back to the Gare Du Nord with plenty of time to take a 3-course meal at a nearby Brasserie before heading back to London around 9.15pm.

I hope you will enjoy this photographic tour as I take you with me not just to famous sights but perhaps uncover some less well-known gems.

I spent many years working in reinsurance with a major Lloyd's underwriting group, mainly writing computer systems.

More recently, have spent the last eight years working in Cape Town's prisons as a Christian missionary. In that time, the mission has grown to a small team and we also have a farm project now to help ex-prisoners who are serious in changing their lives.

I now split my time between working with a church in the east end of London and continuing with prison ministry in both London & Cape Town.

Thanks Désirée. I spent all of the previous afternoon planning the most efficient order to visit each as well as walking routes and metro stations to use. I had as much fun planning as doing! Nonetheless, your own book would tend to suggest that there's still plenty more for me to explore ...

Thanks Linda. Glad you like them. Whilst I used Aperture & Photoshop for some of the effects, others could be achieved straight out of the camera! In particular, I am a big fan of Sony's "HDR Painting" effect. It's available on both the Sony cameras I use, but definitely more subtle on the A65.
