In 2006, 30 years had gone by since my brother and sister left Mozambique (29 in what concerns me). Since then, none of us three ever returned to our motherland – we came to do it together three decades later.
This journey, the photos of which I share in this album, started well before the real departure with plenty of arrangements and anticipation.
Although in 1973 we had made an epic return car journey between Beira and Lourenço Marques, I kept but a dim impression of it all and none of us knew much of the country any way. So from the outset we had agreed that after landing in Maputo, in the south, and spending a few days taking a break for immersion, we would travel by car up to Beira, in the centre of the country, as we had done 33 years earlier.
It took us five days to get to the city of Beira, our homeland, having lingered on in places on our way there, driven by whim and beauty.

I started shooting at the age of 18, with a small camera. Shortly thereafter, I bought a 35mm one, with interchangeable lenses and manual exposure control, which allowed me more creative freedom.
Under the pretext of shooting I got to know most of the city of Lisbon on foot.
Some years after, in late 1998, photography was no longer a hobby to me, having become instead my profession, especially in the press area.
I like to photograph any kind of landscape, industrial environments and still life.
