146 pages This narrative presents how I kept myself integral during my mother's terminal illness. It shows how I thought and what I did as I traveled from the U.S. to Italy to be of help to her. It chronicles my behavior once I got to Italy, how I related to the culture, to relatives, to my Italian past, and ultimately to mother herself. Writing the diary kept me involved with the beauty of language and of expression, so that, as a result, I minded much less the child treatment I sometimes had to endure from the one parent I had remaining.
