A travel book made about parts of north-west Svalbard (or Spitsbergen), a small group of islands north of Norway. The six day cruise was undertaken in June 2008, mid-summer but still cold for an Australian botanist. There are lots of photos, with brief descriptions of the stunning scenery, which were taken from the ship, zodiacs and landings. Many plant photos are included from the landings.
I was borne in Perth, Western Australia in 1950, grew up there when it was a much slower place to live. As a child, I spent a lot of time in the bush (woods) and developed a love for the outdoors and plants in particular. I have been working as a consultant botanist since 1988, mostly in Western Australia. 2004 was the first time I had been overseas, to present a research paper in Rhodes Island, Greece. In that first tip I went to Scotland, Greece, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Halfway through that trip I decided that I liked traveling a lot and have been doing it as much as possible since then. Other countries I have travelled through since then are: Cambodia, China, England, Finland, France, Germany, Laos, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. Places I want to travel to soon or spend more time in are: China, Cambodia, Nepal, Russia, Tibet and Vietnam. Then later, have a look around Chile and Peru. Paul December 2013
