About the Book
A continuation of the Conceal Carry, Draw (2012) work completed for my solo exhibition Packing Heat at ACRE Projects (1913 W. 17th St., Chicago IL, May 27-28, 2012), Draw is a series of drawings of the 24 most popular handguns purchased on the U.S., specifically for carrying with a Concealed carry, or CCW (carrying a concealed weapon) permit. These drawings were completed by frequenting internet forums where members were encouraged to post high-resolution pictures of their personal arsenals. Because handguns are manufactured specifically with ergonomics (weight, balance, comfort, etc.) in mind - aside from just range and accuracy - repeatedly drawing these weapons was meant as a method to familiarize myself with their similar, but varied forms. Through this kind of physical repetition, I hoped to embed their graphic outlines into my own muscle memory, much as a skilled marksman repeatedly fires a weapon in order to sync the action of the gun (firing, recoil, etc.) with his/her physiology (stance, breathing, heart rate, etc.).
