As a teenager John Telford attended a sacrament meeting where newly returned mission president Thomas Monson spoke. Inspired by his words and stories, John renewed his desire to serve a mission. But when an offer to play professional baseball was made he had to make a choice. He followed a scripture in Matthew, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God..." After he was called to the Samoan Islands, he was set apart by newly called apostle, Thomas S. Monson. One of Elder Monson's areas of responsibility was the Islands of Polynesia and so visited Samoa multiple times during Telford's mission. MY TURN IN PARADISE recounts those experiences along with the unbelievable adventures he had while serving in the Samoan Islands half a century ago.
