About the Book
The TLR Compendium, 2013 is the companion volume to the SLR Compendium (see Author's Bookstore). It is the perfect introduction for the novice user and is full of basic, useful and some quite obscure information about this most fascinating of camera types! For the collector, this is a determined effort to log and describe every TLR made from the Rolleiflex of the late 1920's to the last and present Rolleiflex and everything in between, including the Chinese 'Five Goats'!. There is also a complete list of all 35mm and subminiature TLR types, most known large format models and a sampling of the myriad cheap 620 and 127 models so popular in the 195-60's (impossible to count them all!) An extensive list of rebranded 120 models is included, identifying their true origin where possible. No collector should be without this book. It is not only the result of two years of careful and extensive research by an expert photo historian and modern equipment reviewer, it is a good read as well. Many common mistakes found on the web are corrected here such as vague and ill-founded claims as to who made what. The author is particularly frustrated by the way that error, wild speculation and nonsense proliferate on the net and become the commonly believed 'truth'. That was one reason he began this project.
