This book is a sampling of images i've acquired in my neighborhood. palenville and haines falls ny, the platte clove and devils kitchen, the central catskills and several from other drainage. When Thomas Cole came here in 1825 he quickly divided the land into morning, afternoon and evening places that staged his vision of light as the divine presence in nature. it's not just the heights or scale of the land's features that awe us but their orientation to the track of the sun and shadows of neighboring peaks.

Vince Bilotta is an exceptional visionary who has joined the historical continuum of Hudson River and Catskill Mountain artists with a trekker's spirit and a magical eye. If it can be said that the reverence for light and its power to animate natural form is at the roots of this school's attention, then it can be easily added that Bilotta is one of its reigning masters equal to the very best this tradition has to offer. A must have book.
