About the Book
Rider, a black and white Border Collie, lives in Alaska with his Momma and Poppa. When Poppa has to deploy to Afghanistan, Rider decides to run away from home to find Poppa and bring him home to Momma. Join Rider for a story of courage, loyalty, and love as he journeys thousands of miles to reunite his family.
The story was written by Matt Komatsu and illustrated by his sister Lydia. Matt originally wrote the story while deployed, for family members whom are familiar with Rider, or as Matt and his wife refer to him, "Bubbas." Based on requests from friends and family, Matt and Lydia decided to sell the book on Blurb to a wider audience. The story, told through Rider's eyes, echoes themes familiar to military families and the difficulties of deployment. The authors hope this book helps families cope with the absence of their loved ones by telling a kid's story through the eyes of the most loyal family member of all - your dog.
