Erin Goodwin-Guerrero, Editor Artshift, San Jose describes Kerry Vander Meers mixed media works on paper.
"Abstract shapes and patterns, when seen in pale transparencies, work like atmospheric perspective or the soft focus of mysterious forms seen through a microscope. On top, clusters of plant and organic forms hang from the top margin of the print like drying specimens in a workshop. Some of theses shapes drip like jewels on a baroque necklace. Others are orb-like, an elaborate brooch with reference to nature but symmetrical and ornamental."
Vander Meer completed her MFA in sculpture from Mills College. Her talents, however, also extend into the realms of painting, printmaking, mixed media, installation, and performance art. She has exhibited and in collections in New York, California, Germany, Seattle, Chicago, Spain, Santa Fe, Atlanta, Ireland, Japan, and London. She is recipient of a number of prestigious awards including artist-in-residency awards at the Foundation Valpariso in Spain, Millay Colony in Upstate New York,, Villa Montalvo in Santa Clara, California and Cill Rialaig in Ireland.
