Sally McClelland, who was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1918, vividly and often humorously depicts the era in which she grew up, her education at Connecticut College (class of 1941) and Radcliffe, and the lives of her parents, ancestors, and illustrious family members, the American actress Maude Adams and the geologist Laurence M. Gould, chief scientist on Commander RIchard E. Byrd's first expedition to Antarctica. The book includes numerous photographs and a detailed genealogy.
