This book examines people in their homes at Vulcan Lofts in Oakland, California. Here, a steel factory turned artist live-work space has spawned a vibrant community of artists, free thinkers and friends. The unique architecture and vivid personalities posed a compelling subject for documentary photography.
Artist/Photographer Ren Dodge was born Minneapolis, MN. His award winning artwork has been displayed at galleries, festivals, and art exhibits in Oakland and San Francisco. His artistic focus is on the process of engagement and the results are a by-product of that experience of interaction. Utilizing a variety of media, including: photography, video, drawing and painting, his artwork communicates a visceral experience of discovery. He is the principal at Ren Dodge Photography which provides commercial photography and video production services. He received a B.A. in Art, Photography from San Francisco State University. Ren currently resides in Oakland, California.
