About the Book
The idea behind this book is to introduce some of the villages to visitors coming to the Luberon. Not so much in the spirit of providing detailed information, all of which can be easily found at the tips of ones fingers on the Internet, but rather to share my knowledge gleaned from having lived here for over twenty years. The proverbial foreigner abroad, who little by little, has become integrated into the every day life of the small village of St Saturnin lès Apt. There are personal anecdotes, general anecdotes, many observations birthed from a love of this region, its magnificent beauty and the people who live here, especially the locals who were born and raised here. What I am offering in these pages is my familiarity with this region. Above all I am trying to impart my experience, something which is not specifically substantial but more a nuance. A nuance which a visitor won't be privy too, only because he or she has not lived here, hasn't, because of the lack of time, been able to penetrate beyond the briefness of their visit. In my imagination I see this book as something akin to inviting friends to a dinner party with whom you share, good food (well less good if I'm cooking!) excellent wines and lively conversation. My advantage is that I can chat to you about life in the Luberon, what I have lived, what those around me have experienced, everything one would expect from a convivial evening spent together. Stories, amusement, disbelief, and the inevitable embellishment of facts which become anecdotes and, who knows with the passage of time, quaint legends.
