The Runswick to Port Mulgrave beach walk is a popular fossil hunter's circular walk, from Runswick to Port Mulgrave and back along the cliff path. It has numerous places for fossiling and jet hunting. The history of Port Mulgrave and picturesque village of Runswick is of interest. The boulder field is arduous but the short distance to Port Mulgrave, however, it may be possible for families to negotiate with time but is probably more suited to the walker. The path that ascends to the cliff from Port Mulgrave beach is unsuitable for those with very young children.
The aim of this walking guide is to provide circular beach walk combining the passions of fossil hunting and beachcombing for Whitby Jet, with the sight seeing of the numerous historical sites of interest that lie on our beaches.
The guide indicates the places where to find Whitby Jet, ammonites and other fossils, whilst taking in leisure and historic sites of interest such as scenic harbours, industrial 16th century alum mines, shipwrecks, coastal views of waterfalls and picturesque fishing villages.
