This guide book is for 'Redcar Dune Beach Walk' from the "One Walk, Fossiling Beach Walks - Fossils, Flotsam, Jetsam and Whitby Jet hunting on the beaches of the Yorkshire Coast", series of guide books, whose theme is "Fossiling Beach Walks on the Yorkshire Coast. This book will appeal to those who fell walk or sight see in the North York Moors and are interested in fossils, Whitby Jet and beachcombing flotsam and jetsam.
The Redcar dune beach walk is a beach walk that follows the dunes to Redcar and Saltburn and back. An ideal family walk that is flat and simple to follow. Not much to look at first, but the saving grace of this walk is that, the glaciers that formed the dunes and shingle beach left fossil deposits that few know about. Ammonites, Devils Toe Nails and gastropods are found here on the shingle and sand beach. Saltburn has a pier and Victorian cliff cable car have historical interest for leisure and challenge walkers.
The aim of this walking guide is to provide circular beach walk combining the passions of fossil hunting and beachcombing for Whitby Jet, with the sightseeing of the numerous historical sites of interest that lie on our beaches.
The guide indicates the places where to find Whitby Jet, ammonites and other fossils, whilst taking in leisure and historic sites of interest such as scenic harbours, industrial 16th century alum mines, shipwrecks, coastal views of waterfalls and picturesque fishing villages.
