"A Lucky Boy" is a humorous and thoughtful "Rags to Eventual Riches" story about Gil Jacobs, a third generation Lebanese boy born and raised in the "Bottoms" of Cincinnati. His high school and college years are rich with antidotes regarding his struggle with discipline and his transition to middle class America. His escapades extend over three score years from Ohio to Michigan to California, including spring breaks in Florida and a trip Havana, with a seven year time out for a regrettable marriage.
In 1974, after a financially and emotionally devastating divorce, he dedicated himself to raising his two sons while balancing the life of a single dad with a return to the single life in San Francisco. Dice became a fun focus of his life as he authored several books on dice games and produced game packages and held city wide Liars Dice tournaments. Football also came to the foreground as he became engrossed in following the 49ers from Kezar, to Candlestick and joined in their Super Bowl exploits. He has great stories of being at the very first super bowl and eight others that he attended. More recently, he became involved in publicizing and promoting the jazz and swing music of the forties and fifties by co-authoring the biography of "Harold Jones”, Count Basie’s favorite drummer currently performing with Tony Bennett’s Quartet.
Starting with IBM, he found great success in the computer industry. But after some forty years, he changed careers to mortgage loan origination and also enjoyed great success with Citibank and Wells Fargo.
His second marriage is in its 21st year, and they are happily retired in the heart of San Francisco where they enhance living in their favorite city with world-wide travel, cruising and visiting with his two sons who are fire fighters in San Francisco.
At age seventy-seven, he is just hitting his writing stride after completing the very successful biography of "Harold Jones" and now his own memoirs.
