Rich layers of meanings rooted in human history, religion and lore are not necessary for an appreciation of the presentation of the Elegant Universe in Mercedes Nuñez’s nineteen paintings. These planetary works convey the energy and evolving and devolving forms of the universe, the heat or freezing cold that is beyond imagining, the constant change and movement, the infinity of empty space. We are presented with the white of brilliant light, the blue glow of distant light, the red of energy and fire, the black of all potential as well as of endless space, and the yellow gold—the spark that is causal of happenings.
As a teaching facility, the Wallace L. Anderson gallery advances learning through lively and innovative approaches that promote the arts to the students of Bridgewater State University and communities beyond the campus.
