In Swedish “Slussen” is the popular term for the Karl Johan sluice between Saltsjön (Salt Lake) and Lake Mälaren, but also the common name for what is possibly Stockholm's most famous intersection of traffic.
I have passed Slussen daily for 30 years without reflecting on its finitude. Now that it may be demolished and regardless of what redevelopment proposal is finally adopted, I find myself compelled to document this aging beauty for posterity. This is my declaration of love to the weathered concrete, rusty rebar and cracked tiles that are Slussen.
