About the Book
In September of 2012, I took an extended seven week vacation to Italy to study the Italian language. I rented an apartment in Rome on the Viale Guglielmo Marconi just a few blocks south of the Roma – Trastevere train station. From here, I could hop on public transportation to take me to my language school classes for four hours each weekday. My weekends, however, were spent traveling to many of the regions of Italy from the northern region that includes Lake Como and Milan to the farthest southern region of Sicily to Palermo to which I took a night train from Rome. During my stay, I visited many other regions in between these two. Many of the places I visited were small off the beaten path villages. One of my most memorable experiences is that of walking up into a Tuscan medieval walled hilltop village through its gate. I walked in a rainstorm this evening and found a dry and warm restaurant that had no more than eight small tables. I dined here having a bowl of pappardelle al ragù di cinghiale (fresh pasta with a wild boar ragù) with a nice glass of Brunello di Montalcino. These were both so fantastically superb that I can nearly taste them now as I write this. I experienced so many interesting and wonderful things on this trip in addition to the food. I truly feel that I am most relaxed and at peace in a faraway land taking on new experiences. I hope that I am able to convey this and that you enjoy these visual memories I made of this wonderful country of such rich food, wine, culture, architecture, and history. This is my photographic journey that only illustrates a small portion of my “Sette Settimane di Viaggio in Italia” (Seven Weeks of Travels in Italy).
