Native to North America is an ecosystem called the Tallgrass Prairie. At one time it occupied one hundred forty million acres that stretched from the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians, and from the Red River Valley in Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Today, less than 10% of that acreage exists anywhere on the planet. TALLGRASS PRAIRIE is a photographic portrait of the native plants and animals that are the vital force of the unique prairie landscape.

About the Author

Claudia Patrick

Conservation is at the heart of my wildlife and landscape photography of the preserve that stretches 25,000 acres from northern Kansas to Osage County in northern Oklahoma. "The Osage" refers to the name of the county and the Native American tribe to which the land originally belonged. The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve stands as a hope and possibility for the preservation of other plants, animals, and bio-diverse communities endangered by habitat loss and human encroachment.
