Location is an important theme in these black and white photographs, but loneliness,absence and memory also recur throughout.
Images produce memories of situations or places that are similar to what is seen in that image. We are not led into the image, we are led back into our memories, and the image is the mechanism through which the past can be constructed and situated within the present.
Completed an MA in photography in 2011, now a second year PhD student at MIRIAD, Manchester School of Art. Jan strives to produce images that are aesthetically pleasing and experiments with all mediums and types of cameras from the humble pinhole to high end DSLR, polaroid and large format film to digital.
