In these pages, Bowman artist Cris Fulton shares some of her favorite photographs and drawings of the magnificent grasslands and badlands country in southwestern North Dakota. This is a rugged, yet vulnerable landscape; one that Fulton hopes will be preserved for its wideness and wildness, its majestic beauty, and the silence and solitude that can renew the body, mind, and spirit.
Cris Fulton has enjoyed drawing and taking photographs from an early age. Her subject matter is the prairie country of southwestern North Dakota. "The land of my birth seems like a magical place; with its big fields, magnificent skies, massive buttes, spectacular Badlands, winding muddy rivers, rolling hills, scoria roads, prairie grasses, cottonwoods, junipers, buffalo, deer, antelope, horses, and hawks. My work is an attempt to create something from the great joy I feel when I'm out in this wide open space."
