About the Book
The book describes an expedition arranged to celebrate the Millenium to the Antarctic Peninsular. The expedition was organised by a group of veteran Antarctic scientists in order to visit as many of their old base Huts as was possible. Some of them had not been used for fourty years or more. Apart from the magnificent scenary, It was a very nostalgic journey into the past and brought back many memories to those `FIDS` fortunate enough to be able to re-live this amazing voyage into the past. The book is profusely illustrated and the text is in the form of a day to day journal. Many interesting and amusing annecdotes are included and there are detailed charts of the ships route around the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. An interesting and informative introduction is provided concerning two friends of the author, who themselves were down in the Antarctic in 1949, not long after the war ended.

I was born near Halifax in Yorkshire and grew up in the small village of Sowerby high on the Pennine hills. I received my first bicycle as a birthday present when I was thirteen years old. It led me to want to explore the world around me and then to extend my adventures during the rest of my life to traveling in all its forms. I took up sailing and mountain walking and emigrated to new Zealand and then to Australia for twenty years. I returned to live on the Isle of Skye where I ran a B&B business and now live in Galloway by the sea in beautiful South West Scotland.
