About the Book
'Mapengo' is about my life in Nairobi, Kenya in the 60s. It then moves on to the UK and describes my life in the British Army (Corps of Royal Engineers). After demobilisation on 1991 I joined Her Majesty's Prison Service as a Prison Officer. I took early retirement from the prison service at the age of 57, and my wife and I moved to La Herradura on the South coast of Spain.

I was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1950 of Seychelles parents. I left Kenya at the age of 18, and went to live with my uncle and aunt in Crayford, Kent. After a full career in the British Army (Royal Engineers) I joined Her Majesty's Prison Service and served as a prison officer at HMP Littlehey in Huntingdon, UK. It was at this time I undertook a creative writing course/proofreading course with Chapter House. My other hobbies include playing music (harmonica/guitar. I love country music and blues) , writing poetry, walking and kayaking...the odd gin and tonic goes down well too. Pam, my gorgeous very patient wife, and I have been living in Spain since 2007 when I retired from HMP. Thanks for reading this... Denis Joseph Scott Green
