“40” is part of a body of work created during the final year of my BFA, that has been carried out over the course of 40 days. The project was executed with particular parameters that I put in place before beginning - each evening I would have to record in some way, shape, or form everything that I felt I had learned that day. This information would have to fit on one 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. The resulting documents catalogue a period of time in a formal institution which prides itself on the dissemination of knowledge.
My work, often conceptual in nature, is increasingly engaged with institutional critique - the systematic examination of institutions of art but also the concept, form and function of art itself. I pose questions about the process of validation concerning knowledge, ranging from highly personal development to the recording of academic material.
