About the Book
This book presents highlights of a personal collection of contemporary art (defined as created after 1950) assembled since 1970 in York Harbor, Maine. Most of the works were acquired from the artists themselves, often via benefit auctions at the York Art Association, the Ogunquit Art Association, the Portsmouth (NH) Y or the Ogunquit Museum of American Art.
An alumnus of Hamilton College and Boston University School of Medicine, Bill is now a retired physician (and former US Navy Captain (Medical Corps)) living in York Harbor, Maine with his wife, Amey, their cat Triscuit, and a 50-year collection of American art spanning over 200 years. When they bought their 1891 summer cottage on Aldis Lane, the 14-room house came with all its furnishings, including several 19th century oils which became the nucleus of a growing collection of paintings from the same era - the Gilded Age, or about 1870 to 1915.
