About the Book
Based on the blog with thousands of loyal fans, a beautiful, heartfelt, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories capturing the spirit of a city
Souls of San Francisco began in the fall of 2011, when photographer Garry Bowden set out to create a photographic census of San Francisco. Armed with his camera, he began crisscrossing the city, covering thousands of miles on foot, all in an attempt to capture San Franciscans and their stories. The result of these efforts was a vibrant blog he called "Souls of San Francisco," in which his photos were featured alongside quotes and anecdotes.
The blog has steadily grown, now boasting thousands of devoted followers. Souls of San Francisco is the book inspired by the blog. With 40 pages of beautiful color photos, including exclusive portraits and all-new stories, Souls of San Francisco is a stunning collection of images that showcases the heart and soul of San Francisco.
Surprising and moving, printed in a beautiful full-color, Souls of San Francisco is a celebration of individuality and a tribute to the spirit of the city.
Hey there, I'm Dijon. I'm a storyteller based in San Francisco. The first thing to know about me is that I love people. Since 2011 I've been walking the streets capturing thousands of stories for my ongoing street photography project SOULS OF SAN FRANCISCO. SOULS is the story of San Francisco told by the people who are the cultural fabric of the legendary bay area scene. Souls of San Francisco is the 1st chapter of the international SOULS OF SOCIETY movement. The mission is to connect communities by telling uplifting stories that increase compassion, empathy, and spiritual awareness. Soon there will be SOULS chapters in cities across the globe; each chapter comprised of local storytellers sharing the stories of everyday people in their communities. When not making art you can find me drinking loose leaf tea and playing in the trees.
