About the Book
This book is a tribute to my Aunt, Kathleen Mary Sheard aka Kay who devoted her life to the service of the British Army during WWII. She was the only woman in a man's world and earned a great deal of respect from everyone who she came into contact with. She was the 1st woman to enter Rome after its capture by the Allies and was also presented to The Pope, representing the YMCA. The book is based around her original letters from applying to join the war effort in 1943 and throughout her career as a Welfare Officer and later in her retirement up to her death in June 2012. She was a very courageous woman who I loved dearly.
