About the Book
I am continuing an exploration of the domestic micro-spaces, both physical (like the yard, the garden, the kitchen) as well as ritualistic (like the birthday party, the haircut, holidays) of my childhood home. The composition of the photographs is meant to order what is essentially chaotic; I want to use clutter, messiness, moments of transition, and layering to obscure and animate these ordinary spaces so that they will become metaphoric in some way.
As a group the photographs begin to speak about my background, empathy with one’s kin, the closeness of a family, and the experience of childhood- but it is my hope that these photographs go beyond didactic description. They are not entirely documentary in style, it is a blend of fiction and biography nevertheless the resulting pictures are still felt, and intimate.
