This book is a compendium of a series of one walk guide books by the same author whose theme is "Fossiling Beach Walks on the Yorkshire Coast”. This book will appeal to those who fell walk or sight see in the North York Moors and are interested in fossils, Whitby Jet and beachcombing flotsam and jetsam. The aim of this walking guide is to provide circular beach walks combining the passions of fossil hunting and beachcombing for Whitby Jet, with the sight seeing of the numerous historical sites of interest that lie on our beaches. The guide indicates the places where to find Whitby Jet, ammonites and other fossils, whilst taking in leisure and historic sites of interest such as scenic harbours, industrial 16th century alum mines, shipwrecks, coastal views of waterfalls and picturesque fishing villages. Collecting fossil ammonites along the along beaches the North York Moors is a popular pastime, but there are other items to find that are washed up along the shores such as Whitby Jet, flotsam and jetsam, driftwood, wrecks and semi-precious stones . There are also scenic harbours and historic moorings, and cart tracks of the 16th century Alum workings to explore along this coast. The guide describes the method to determine the start time of the walk to coincide with tide times. It also describes the beach walking techniques and the techniques of beachcombing fossil and jet hunting. This series of fosiling beach walks are along popular sandy and rocky beaches such as Boggle Hole, Ravenscar, Staithes, Redcar, Runswick and many lesser known beaches such as the ‘Kettle’, Scalby Ness and Port Mulgrave. The walks negotiate; moonscapes, fossilised beach; pass by, Victorian jet mines, Tudor alum mines, harbours, dunes, Lighthouses, wrecks and smuggler’s caves to find fossils, Whitby Jet, flotsam and jetsam. The fosiling beach walks range from a leisurely stroll along the beach to more challenging walks.
