A Friendly Wager is a story from Victorian Space Age's Alternate History. It was originally posted as "The Andropoff Brothers" on 06-01-13. It is the story of twin brothers who live apart on opposite sides of the world, and how a friendly wager between them launched a race to the Moon in 1717 and changed history forever. The Alternate History series is a collection of illustrated stories that were posted at Victorian Space Age over a period of several years. These stories cover the lives of characters, both; good and evil, human and non-human, natural or created, and some that live between the centuries. Throughout the time line their lives and actions set off a chain reaction of events that create an extraordinary woven pattern of history that spans from the time of ancient Egypt to the centuries that lay ahead. The series is not limited to Earth or Human history, but also covers non-human, off-world events, some of which had an influence on humanity. Because of my interest in Steampunk, several stories take place in the 19th century where: genetic engineering, terraforming, and faster than light drive have become a reality with unexpected treasures and consequences.

About the Author: My interest in 19th century science fiction goes back to the late 50's after seeing the movie "The Fabulous World of Jules Verne". During the 70's and 80's, I illustrated fantasy machines that included airships, land steamers, flying machines, submarine steamships, off-world cities, planetary and interstellar spacecraft. In 1986 these drawings created an opportunity for me to work as a Designer in the aerospace industry. In 1994 my drawings caught the attention of the woman who later became my wife. At the suggestion of a close friend I started the Victorian Space Age site. Over the years I posted stories from an Alternate History. Now at the suggestion of visitors the segments will be available as a series of books.
