This book is a companion volume to the previously published “Mexico: The Ancient Civilizations”. It is a photographic record of a visit by the author to Mexico in March-April 2013.
In this volume, particular attention is given to the period of Mexican history after the Spanish Conquest in 1521. Although for much of this period widespread exploitation and ill-treatment of the indigenous peoples occurred, the Colonial Period in particular has left a rich legacy of architectural gems. In the modern period the history and cultures of the indigenous peoples has been the inspiration for the production of some magnificent murals by artists such as Diego Riviera.
Following a brief history of Mexico, the main part of the book presents images of the architecture, people and politics of the country.
Leonard Ferguson has been a keen amateur photographer for over thirty years. His particular interests are landscape and architectural photography.
