About the Book
An ecological research area managed by the University of Washington's Center for Urban Horticulture, the Union Bay Natural Area is a destination for birdwatchers, joggers, student groups and over 150 species of birds. For award winning photographer Doug Plummer, the UBNA (colloquially known as “The Fill”) has been a source of inspiration for his contemplative, complex landscape photographs. This photo essay of 42 images tracks Montlake Fill through a turnover of seasons, from the stark complexity of winter branches through the green fullness of summer and back to the austere beauty of winter.

I've been taking photographs all my life, and it's been my day job now for over 25 years. I am having more fun now then I've ever had. Weddings, commercial work and lately, video--it all feeds my bliss.
