About the Book
Author, Maria Herring, describes her inspiration for the story:
"My cousin Lulu’s e-mail arrived on Saturday 15th March. There were many, many words in that particular missive, but my brain got stuck on just these four — “the cancer is back”. I wanted to hit reply straight away and send my beloved cousin a thousand words of encouragement and love and support and happiness but my mind was completely blank. I hit reply anyway, because I had to say something, but every little thing that my fingertips tapped out sounded clichéd and superficial. So I did what I do too often in such circumstances when words are needed: I stayed silent.
On Sunday I went for a lovely long bike ride and came back realising that instead of writing a letter I should write Lulu a story. A story for Lulu that would express how I felt about her, the cancer, and the inspiration she is to our family.
Now, I’m sure you’re all familiar with Howard Shore’s epic soundtrack to Peter Jackson’s epic film based on JRR Tolkien’s epic fantasy masterpiece, Lord of the Rings, and when the track entitled The Lighting of the Beacons came on my mind immediately started playing that scene from the film. When the music and pictures faded, Lulu’s story was there waiting for me. And I just knew it was called Beacon of Hope. Because nothing can enkindle hope in the depths of darkness like a lit beacon."
Beacon of Hope is dedicated to every person who has ever had, or been touched by, cancer.
Top of Lulu’s bucket list is to raise £10,000 for UK cancer charities. So, to give cancer patients and their loved ones even more hope we want to split all profits from this book equally between two of our favourite cancer charities:
Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

About the Creator
Hello! Thank you for visiting my Blurb shop! My name is Louise Wisson. I started blogging after beating cancer for the first time in May 2013. The aim of my blog (louisewisson.com) is to share the Positive Mental Attitude that helped me get through my treatment and, ultimately, will help me beat cancer again. I was inspired by Stephen’s Story, his Bucket List and his wish to share his motivation with others to live their lives to the full and achieve their own bucket list. So I wrote my own bucket list. Top of my bucket list is to raise £10,000 for cancer charities (The Eve Appeal, Cancer Research UK, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Macmillan Cancer Support). So, the objective of my Blurb shop is sell books to help raise money for these amazing charities. Happy Shopping!
