This book covers in considerable detail the formation of the 2nd Canadian Armoured Regiment over a ten year period during which it transformed from a First World War cavalry regiment to a fully-mechanized armoured regiment with the 5th Canadian Armoured Division. The book covers extensively the unit's training in Canada and in England, their involvement in the Italian campaign of 1944 and their push through Holland in early 1945, and finally, the unit's return to Canada in 1946. Containing over 1400 photographs of the Lord Strathcona's Horse (RC) taken between 1936-46, the photos were obtained from a variety of sources including the Regimental Archives in Calgary, the Public Archives of Canada, and a number of museums in Canada and in Holland. Almost all of these photographs have never been published with the vast-majority being sourced directly from the veterans themselves. Also within the pages is a colour vehicle plates, period postcards, wartime maps, and Strathcona uniform photos which give the reader a detailed understanding of the Regiment's development over this remarkable period.
