The Construction of NEMA (New Market) in San Francisco was photographed from foundation to the final glass curtain. Owned by Crescent Heights, designed by Handel Architects and constructed by Swinerton Builders, the book focuses on the physical labor of skilled construction workers using tools and materials and coordination to bring a nearly $300 million project to completion. All photographs are by Kevin Shea and taken from late 2011 to mid 2014.
I just hit the 50 year photo mark in seeing and capturing the pictures in the world around me. For over 3 years, I've been documenting the work of men and women in the construction industry. Its an amazing urban landscape that I explore and learn from.
