About the Book
This book contains photographs, which were all taken in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, where I live. The places I have captured are in and around three cities: Ostrava, Frydek-Mistek and Kojetin.
My photos capture my closest surroundings, places that would grab my attention on the way from or to work, or trips. I take my camera with me every day. Sometimes, I randomly run into something that is worth capturing. It can also be a process of searching, but it always comes from observing the light. In some cases, I would visit one place more times before I take the picture in the favorable light.
One theme accompanying this book is "finding beauty in the mundane". You will see photographs of abandoned houses, tire repair stores, weathered walls or forgotten backyards. On the other hand, you could find here photos taken during sunrises and sunsets, but always in the suburbs or peripheries. In my photos, I put the emphasis on color, composition and shadows.
I have to mention, that this book and all the the photographs would not exist without Flickr and the wonderful community of photography enthusiasts. They are huge source of inspiration and they give me support in what I am doing.
