About the Book
The £2 profit on each sale is donated to the Save Sefton Park Meadows campaign fund. This book of selected portraits is a departure from the B&W urban and industrial landscapes for which John Davies is known. This new work reflects his concerns over the loss of public open green space and it's importance to people who live in densely populated urban areas. During May 2014 he decided to make portraits of people who regularly visit Sefton Park Meadows in Liverpool. On average he spent 90 minutes each day for 10 days and stopped to ask 112 adults if he could take their picture. A surprisingly high proportion - 96 people - agreed to have their portrait made for an exhibition. These individuals wanted to help promote awareness of the potential loss and sale of the Meadows to commercial property developers. This book is not only a selection of portraits of people who use this green space but also a portrait of the Meadows. Designed as a 8x10in. soft cover book with 33 colour photographs. Text written by John Davies in August 2014. v4
