About the Book
I met Wing Commander Roger Morewood in his garden one day. We said `Hello`, and from then on we became close friends for many years, until his death in Dec 2014 at the age of 98. We shared many things together including his wartime experiences as a fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain and both before the war and afterwards. We made two very nostalgic visits to North Weald airfield where he was stationed with 56 Squadron and subsequently 248 squadron for the rest of the war. He was invited on both occasions to sign books and pictures for the public and on the first visit among the many aircraft on display were seven Hawker Hurricanes which for Roger were a sight to behold. Over the weekend he met many old comrades and sadly these are becoming less as each year passes.
I saw fit to record all these events and much more in my book because, one day, Roger will join his comrades in the big airfield in the sky. Near the end, a flypast by the B of B Memorial Flight (Spitfire & Hurricane) was organised over his home, which brought tears to his cheeks. Sadly that day has now occured. The book is widely illustrated and should provide a lasting memory of a great friend and a very brave man, who epitomised all the brave people who fought in WW2.

I was born near Halifax in Yorkshire and grew up in the small village of Sowerby high on the Pennine hills. I received my first bicycle as a birthday present when I was thirteen years old. It led me to want to explore the world around me and then to extend my adventures during the rest of my life to traveling in all its forms. I took up sailing and mountain walking and emigrated to new Zealand and then to Australia for twenty years. I returned to live on the Isle of Skye where I ran a B&B business and now live in Galloway by the sea in beautiful South West Scotland.
